q: Why did you decide to focus on event wear when starting your brand? a: We saw a niche in the market for modern occasion-wear with a focus on embellishment. We are magpies and love things that sparkle! We also wanted to fill the gaps in our own personal wardrobes, designing seasonless garments that can be worn and treasured again and again. q: Where did the name ILTA Studio come from? a: ILTA means 'Evening' in Finnish. We loved the connection with occasion wear and the evening. q: What is your design process from beginning to end? a: The ILTA design process is central to the brand. Each design detail, embellishment and embroidery have been meticulously designed to evoke the feeling of luxury, modernity and timelessness from season to season. We travel to source vintage garments and inspiration which are referenced throughout the design process and then create mood, colour and fabric boards. Sourcing the highest quality and luxurious fabrications is at the heart of the brand. We design hand embellished swatches and embroideries inspired by our vintage finds and then work on combining current research/trend details with the ILTA DNA, encapsulating our muse and designing relevant yet timeless silhouettes. These designs are then made by our skilled artisans who create digital patterns and hand embellish/embroider our dresses. q: Describe the ILTA woman in 3 words a: The ILTA muse is free spirited, strong and confident. q: Do you have a favourite piece in your current collection? a: CORA - A modern silhouette with a beautiful hand embellished statement stripe placement. The column silhouette is easy to wear, contouring the body beautifully. q: Where do you get your inspiration from? a: We bonded over a love of vintage and travel and are always inspired by vintage treasures. We love the juxtaposition of combining these details with modern silhouettes. We've visited many vintage archives and markets and use these as a prime source of inspiration. q: What advice would you give to a young brand starting out? a: Trust your gut instinct! Always pull on your resources. Speak to as many people as possible in the industry, always getting feedback on your collection where you can.
