q: What was the inspiration for calling your jewellery brand - Jewelry Lab? a: The origin of the brand name is connected to how I started my journey as a designer. The meaning of 'Lab' in the brand name is about experimentation and art. All my life I've felt like being an unusual artist. q: When did you finally hone your craft and establish your identity in the brand? a: I built the JL based on art and persistence. It takes a long time to establish a brand with an individual approach, catering to each client's needs and creating pieces that are of high quality. Kilometers of chains were melted down in order to find the right quality and form. Suppliers of stones and precious materials certainly had a crucial role in making the brand. q: What is your design process? a: Many sketches and drawings were made before final ideas were formed. Plenty of trials and tribulations remained on the paper as some designs were simply not ready yet. Some of the ideas were hard to create because of technological limitations. I will never stop inventing and creating, it is something that is engrained in me. q: Are there any designers you take inspiration from? a: The inspiration of my sketches comes from everywhere - from nature and stones, weekends with my family in the countryside or a spectacular view in urban areas. I also really love the designs of vintage jewellery. Museums are also a great love of mine; every city that I travel to, I spend a lot of time there, including my favourite London museum, Jewel Tower. Like many other artists, I like to look at magic stones in the ancient relics and luxury items of the previous centuries. Sometimes an idea can arise from a flower or an insect I've seen nearby, or sometimes even from water droplet! For example, one of my latest creations – an accent ring with a large lab grown diamond, was inspired by an ordinary swing. I observed a little girl swinging and I saw how the harnesses, mounted in a metal frame, moved on the chains. It appeared to me that such a design could be interpreted in a ring design, where our attention was drawn to a large stone swinging on chains. My designs really depends on my emotional state, mood and impressions of what I see before me. q: Is there a specific design you'd wear yourself? a: I love jewellery that is completely custom designed. I believe that metal and stone are eternal materials. You have the power, with jewellery to create your own amulet with exclusive decorations that will ultimately become part of your identity. I wish to one day create a piece of a jewellery for myself. It will be a pendant consisting of a buddha statuette carved from rose quartz, which I have bought once from an Indian master in Hong Kong at an exhibition. I plan to create an authentic rose gold pendant with rose cut cognac diamonds using this delicate rose quartz Buddha figurine. q: What is Jewelry Lab's focus for the next few years? a: JL focuses a lot on the quality and tiny elements of jewellery rather than quantity. Our team aims for mind-blowing ideas, but also at the same time, classical and vintage design. Creating pieces for the Royal Family, participation in renowned exhibitions and shows, and producing jewellery pieces for celebrities - these are only a small part of our ambition plans.
